What to Expect from the Interview Process

During your Visit:

Upon arrival to the CAC, you will be greeted and shown to a waiting room while the investigative team assembles and prepares for the interview. A Forensic Interviewer will introduce herself to you and your child and provide a brief tour to the child so that s/he knows what to expect. Prior to the child’s interview, you will meet with the team, comprised of the Forensic Interviewer, a detective assigned to the case, a Children & Youth worker if the case involves child safety concerns, and sometimes a prosecutor assigned to the case.  This meeting will allow you to provide any updates on the child and sign a consent for the interview to take place. When your child is in the interview, a family advocate will meet with you to provide resources and assess needs for information and referral. If your child is also scheduled for a medical exam, a forensic nurse will meet with the you as well to gather information for your child’s exam.

Once the child’s interview is complete, the investigative team will meet with you to discuss next steps.

After the interview:

A week or two after your child completes the Forensic Interview at the CAC, the family advocate will reach out to check in on any referrals or services you may still need help with. Also, members of the investigative team may be in contact to let you know their next steps. If you have any questions after your visit to the center you can call the CAC (717-718-4253) and ask to speak to your family advocate.
